Resume: DJ Delorie: Data General
Data General was one of the first PC manufacturers to use the
then-new IDE drives. It was my job to ensure that the new interface
was 100% compatible. I also rigged a power-cycle test. It had an
external box that the computer plugged in to (110VAC) and the parallel
ports were connected. The computer powered up, did self-test, booted
from the floppy, and sent a command out the parallel port to power off
the machine. A fixed interval later, the machine powered back on
again. The first four drives I tested failed this test.
